Nonclassical Club Night, Troy Bar, review Telegraph

It was clarinetist Mark Simpson, one-time winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year, who stole the show at the Non Classical Club Night at the Troy Bar.

“However it was clarinetist Mark Simpson, one-time winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year, who stole the show. He played a set of solo pieces, some with electronic sound treatment, some without, in a huge ringing tone that silenced everybody. In between he mopped his perspiring brow, enthused about the pieces, and cajoled us into buying his new CD. The performances he gave of Berio’s giant Sequenza and Reich’s New York Counterpoint were simply astounding, and made their unfolding logic seem totally convincing.”
